Setting out to create a timepiece that would put a fun, playful new twist on iconic watch styles of the past, Batavi Watches has masterfully created the gentleman’s Kosmopoliet GMT. To achieve their goal, Batavi Watches combined classic, sharp gentleman-style watch designs with beautiful colorways that make their timepieces stand out in a way no other dive watch has been able to achieve. The designs are smart and sophisticated in that they can be worn on the street but can also serve the purpose as high-quality vintage dive watches that won’t disappoint in action.
Inspired by the Dutch word for “cosmopolitan,” the Kosmopoliet watch embodies everything that a cosmopolitan person who is well-spoken, well-traveled, polite, street smart and keenly aware of all of the current fashion trends would wear. The design of the bezel was encouraged by the iconic fade bezels of similar GMT watches in the past but stands apart from them still with their modern features inspired by geography, fashion, architecture and more. It isn’t just their appearance that makes them unique, however; the inclusion of the well-loved and sought after ETA 2893-2 movement also plays a part in making the timepiece stand out from the others.
The Batavi Kosmopoliet GMT measures a total diameter of 39 millimeters with a crisp, easy-to-read dial within the borders of its unique bezel, which measures only 12.5 millimeters in thickness, making it feel robust and sturdy without causing it to feel bulky and heavy on the wrist. The eye-catching dial of the watch utilizes polished sword hands coated in Swiss SuperLuminova C3 material that circle overtop to tell the time. This material makes the dial easy to read even when you are in dim light settings or deep under the sea. Protecting the hands and the dial is the double-domed sapphire crystal glass that naturally resists damage like nicks and scratches. The bezel is made from sapphire crystal for protection and boasts a lume effect that also adds to the ease of time telling. The durability of the Batavi Kosmopoliet GMT is unmatched, with a case that is crafted out of stainless steel that works with the sapphire crystal glass to ensure its strength and resiliency.
The Batavi Kosmopoliet GMT is water-resistant up to 200 meters and has a power reserve of up to 50 hours—you’ll never have to worry about it slowing down or showing inaccurate time. The timepiece comes standard with a premium stainless steel chain bracelet that finishes off the sleek appearance of the watch.
You can obtain your very own Batavi Kosmopoliet GMT timepiece by contributing to their fundraising efforts on the crowdsourcing website Kickstarter. There are six tiers that you can choose from, starting at just €649. The Kickstarter campaign is set to launch today March 26th, 2020.
